Built on a site favored by Japanese nobility since the 17th century, The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto continues a legacy of quiet luxury. Against the picturesque backdrop of the Kamo River, guests may relax with a spa ritual inspired by Japan’s wellness traditions, meet within one of five event spaces, or indulge in internationally inspired cuisine. The Ritz Carlton Hotel Kyoto was established in 2014.
The hotel contains a lot of Japanese elements.
Loby
After I got through the automatic door made of wood, I still did not see the lobby. There was a waiting room like a Japanese traditional hotel “Ryokan” has, and I got through other automatic door. This architectural structure allows guests to enter into a different world filled with Japanese essence. Green tea scent also made me relax and forget about tiredness from the usual life. I was amazed by how well it created comfortable atmosphere and gave experience which I can get only in there. All furniture there had the concept of Japan. It had a beautiful bonsai, and extensive and elaborate use of wood. Unlike other hotels, The Ritz Carlton Hotel Kyoto has a small reception. Why?? Because it is based on the tradition of “Ryokan” in which the check in is usually done in each room.
Room
There are four types of rooms, and every room has “Bonsai” and Japanese motifed furnitures.
Yukata, Japanese pajama which you usually wear in “Ryokan,” traditional Japanese hotel. This means that you can fully experience Japan while you stay at a luxury traditional hotel.
Every room has a cherry blossom design bathroom.
Suites
There are eight types of Suites. Every suite has a Japanese Zen Garden, and guests staying in suites are able to see the garden during their stay.
In tatami rooms, you can sleep on tatami mats and futons, a Japanese traditional bed, which will enhance your experience in Japan.
Every furniture contains Japanese essence (ex: cushion, the light, and chair)

Wow Experience
I had Afternoon Tea with my mother at the Ritz Carlton Kyoto, and clearly remember the wow experience I had there. It was ten days before I leave for the US to study abroad. We were spending great time at Afternoon Tea. When the plate was served, I noticed a edible message plate which said “Best of wish.” My mother asked the Ritz Carlton Kyoto to surprise me. This kind of surprise might happen in every restaurant, but there was a clear difference. A staff at the Ritz Carlton celebrated me with the bottom of her heart and gave me warm messages.
